  2. Hi @Abi Palmer-Greenwood On the specific question of branches not knowing who their members are - why would data protection regulations prevent this? Obviously the LI knows who its members are and how to contact them - if it didn't it couldn't function. So, why are the branches different? Just out of interest, do you know how many people have nominated LINE as their primary branch, and how many as their secondary branch? Kind regards Adrian

  4. Last year saw our first cohort of apprentices start on their course as they work to becoming Technician Members of the Landscape Institute. We're introducing the next route of membership for this grade - the experienced route to Technician (E2T) - and we're recruiting 50 candidates to help us pilot this. A Technician Member of the Landscape Institute (TMLI) is the new corporate grade of membership that provides a professional home to a broader range of individuals in the sector. The Technician grade looks to bring equity to the profession. We want to future-proof landscape with the technical and specialist skills that are so integral to the work that we do. This means making sure these individuals have the right support and training tailored for their career. If you're interested in this for yourself, or know of any technical specialists in need of a professional home who might be interested in joining this cohort, read more, submit your expression of interest, or join us at our next information session. We've two new information sessions running next week for both employers and staff - sign up for more info 24 January 2022 27 January 2022 MORE DETAILS

  10. Good morning @Adrian Clarke Thank you for the kind welcome! We are currently working on a campaign to build the community members on here but if you could include it in any emails that go out that would be great. We are unable to share with you the details of the members in your area due to GDPR but we will be including some specific information about Connect in some of the All Member emails due to go out in the near future, this will hopefully help! If you could promote it on your social media channels that may also give it a boost! Many thanks! Abi
  11. Hi Abi - welcome on board! As you can see the branch forum doesn't get much (any) traffic. But we can certainly notify members of its existence next time we send out an email. I think that one of the issues for our branch is that we no longer know who our members are. Is there something that can be done about this?
  12. Happy New Year! You will be aware that I post the latest draft and full documents from BSI Group that I suspect may be of interest to some @talklandscape members. Here are the ones published in December 2021. Apologies that the image is unreadable; I think the LI has changed the permissions for image dimensions. But if you click through you will see them all clearly (as well as those published last year) and with active links. Don't forget that you can get a discount on these. Also bear in mind that draft standards are very affordable, and in certain circumstances may be a good way to keep up to date with developments if you don't think you will need the final version. Or you may want to comment!
  13. Welcome @Lee-Anne van Wyk I hope you had a wondeful festive break!! Welcome to LI Connect too! I would suggest joining the Midlands branch group which you can find here: https://connect.landscapeinstitute.org/index.php?/forum/40-midlands/ as members of Connect grows, you will be able to make regional / locally relevant connections using this group 🙂 I will also speak to the Branch committee in that area to see if anyone can offer any help here 🙂 Hope this helps but please do take a look around and ask any questions you may have 🙂 Abi
  14. Hello everyone, Happy New Year to all of you. Hope 2022 is a good one! I've just joined and are looking for a PtC study group. I am based in the Midlands but I suppose if it is a virtual group my location doesn't matter that much. However, I would also be keen to join an in-person group. I work in Birmingham so anywhere in the vicinity could work for me. If anyone knows of an active group, could you please let me know. Thank you and have a nice day.

  16. Good afternoon all Firstly, I wanted to re-introduce myself and my new role! At the beginning of December I formally joined LI as the new Standards and Branches Engagement Manager. My role has two parts, one is to aid in the successful management and delivery of technical material we produce, the other is to support and work with each of you, the Branches, to continue all your fantastic work in engaging with the profession and wider industry. I am currently working on the new Handbook with Antonella and we will be looking to update you on this in January. I would love the opportunity to meet with you all, albeit virtually for the time being, and attend your next committee meetings. Secondly, I wanted to take this opportunity to wish you all a wonderful festive break. This year, much like 2020, has been difficult for many people for many different reasons, so I hope this break allows you all some time for yourselves and your families. I will be cooking a feast, eating far too much, spending time with family (if we are still allowed), dog walks, reading and general downtime! I am really looking forward to working with you all in the New Year! If you have any queries at all, please do not hesitate to contact me directly, either via LI Connect or email, abi.palmer-greenwood@landscapeinstitute.org (sorry that is such a mouthful!) 28. Thank you Dominic, My informal chats with a few Local Authority Tree Officers are now a few years back. My worry is that every council seems to have different views. The idea of having a "Permanent Structure Planting" drawing for every significant planning application is to standardise the approach--so that there is a very simple, easily understood concept that the planners, developers and general public can understand. To be honest, I think that the idea would have to be imposed by national government. I really ought to put the idea forward to the RTPI and Town and Country Planning Association --as well as the LI . A new year resolution!
