  4. Good morning, fellow members! I'm new here, although I've been a member of the LI since joining as a student back in August 2019. I have been a Technician Member of the Landscape Institute since July 2023, very shortly after the Technician membership route was created. I must admit that over the past few years, I have found most employers to be completely unaware of the merits of a Technician member. There are no job advertisements which formally mention it as being a valid membership level, and that any larger employer who uses CV screening software will automatically exclude applications unless there is specific mention of being either a Chartered Member or a graduate. It seems that TMLI accreditation is useful from a personal validation perspective, but still holds no value until it is actively and continually promoted by the Landscape Institute to the profession. As such, I am looking to embark upon the Pathway to Chartership. My difficulty at present is locating a suitable mentor. I had hoped that there would be a strong and active online community here, since the disbandment of the Talk Landscape project. What is everybody's experience of the Landscape Institute in terms of its value to the profession and the sense of community? What are the strengths and weaknesses of membership? There are new candidates up for election just now and it would be good to get a sense of where members feel there are opportunities for improvement.
  5. Are there any existing groups that I could join? Thanks in advance.

JCLI / mare's tail in topsoil query

Anyone had a problem with getting rid of Horsetail or mare's tail (Equistum arvense) within recently topsoiled planting beds? Although the maintenance contractor has repeatedly treated the mares tail over a 12 month period, fragments remain. Unsure whether to insist the main contractor replaces all the soil and plants (some of which are now well established) or extend the contract period for another season. Retention monies are being held Can a JCLI Landscape Works contract be extended? Expert views would be appreciated
