  1. Public engagement is now open on the London Plan Guidance for the Urban Greening Factor (UGF). Development should help to make London greener. To achieve this, London Plan Policy G5 requires all major developments to include urban greening as a fundamental element of site and building design. The policy introduces the use of an Urban Greening Factor (UGF) to evaluate the quantity and quality of urban greening provided by a development proposal. The Mayor will publish draft Urban Greening Factor guidance to support boroughs and applicants in meeting the requirements of the London Plan and would like your feedback. Public engagement on this guidance will close on 20th December 2021. To take part in the consultation, please visit the consultation portal. GLA would love to hear your views and to see you at the engagement events (details and links to register below). UGF engagement events: 4th November 2021 – Applying the UGF to Development Proposals, 2:00 - 3:30pm: This session will take a detailed look at how to calculate the UGF and submit and review a UGF scheme as part of a planning application, as well as the information sources available to help inform urban greening design to optimise the benefits a scheme provides. It is open to all but best suited to those involved in the design and delivery of new developments. 16th November 2021 - Applying the UGF for Local Planning Authorities 11:00am - 12:30pm This session is specifically for development management and planning policy officers, ecologists, and landscape architects from London boroughs. This session will focus on the role and responsibilities of Local Planning Authorities (LPAs) in applying the UGF. We will look in detail at the submission requirements for the UGF, how to evaluate a UGF proposal, and how LPAs can approach setting local UGF targets in their Local Plans and the data and tools available to help to do this.
